Beaver Tailwater - Bertrand Access

UTM 15 425222E 4032887N (NAD27)

Bertrand Access provides the next boat launch facility downstream of the dam. It is located about 3 river miles below the dam access and just above Spider Creek Resort. Access to it is via the secondary road off Hwy 187 near the turn-off to below the dam. Watch for signs. The access road goes down a steep hill. The road continues past Bertrand access to Campground "E" and dead ends at the Parker Bend walk-in access.

There is a long pool both above and below the access. Access upstream by boat and downstream below Spider Creek island is limited at low water if Table Rock Lake is low and generation is off. The area above Bertrand up to Parker Bend is known as Parker Bottoms because of the river bottom land and flat bedrock areas in the river. Wading access here is only possible when Table Rock Lake level is below about 910 msl and generation at Beaver powerhouse is off. There are numerous places to walk-in between here and Parker Bend upstream. They are slightly more difficult access areas however. AGFC plans to improve access on this stretch of river in the future.

Downstream of Bertrand and Spider Creek Island (another tight bend in the river where boaters must be careful), the river widens and currents are marginally slower during generation than the upper 3 miles of the tailwater. The river deepens substantially from here on down to Houseman, and special deep water fly fishing techniques must be used when water levels are high.

Heading upstream on Beaver tailwater from Bertrand access during late afternoon summer generation is a cool way to spend the evening even on the hottest of days. Small boats must maintain a no wake speed above Hwy 62 bridge to the dam.
